Intimacy Co-Ordination

Marty received a Next Generation Artists Award to develop and integrate intimacy practices for performers and creatives into the foundation of work, and have been commissioned to make an intimacy theatre piece, HAUNT, for late 2026.

Marty qualified as an Intimacy Co-Ordinator with Intimacy Professionals Association under Amanda Blumenthal in 2024, having shadowed movement mentors and professionals for many years, particularly over lockdown when theatres were closed.

They intimacy & movement directed the plays Men’s Business by Simon Stephens with Glassmask Theatre (“their awkward, unsensual sex scenes… occur so often that the production’s intimacy coordinator Marty Breen deserves to share directing credits.”, The Guardian) and in heat by Sadhbh Malin, Philomena Productions (“A scene depicting sexual aggression is well managed, composed and executed and it is a testament to the company”, The Reviews Hub), and when I am not performing am on shadowing mentorships for larger-scale TV and film productions.

Their approach to IC’ing is practical, compassionate and highly skilled, having been on both sides of the camera, with a focus on efficiency, open communication and cross-departmental collaboration. They also deliver creative workshops in informed, creative consent with businesses and youth theatres.
