Intimacy Co-Ordination
I am a qualified Intimacy Co-Ordinator, trained with Intimacy Professionals Association under Amanda Blumenthal 2024, IC on Euphoria, White Lotus and The L Word. I was trained throughout a year through practical experience and thorough knowledge of film sets to be able to work seamlessly on any project on any scale. Some particular practical skills gained were knowledge of intimacy garments and leasing with costume departments; navigating actor-director-and cross-departmental relationships; contract, paperwork and nudity rider legal training;creating safe spaces with continued cultural learnings and active anti-racism work; and, most importantly, intimacy choreography. It culminated in an intensive workshop period and practical exam, with graduation in January 2025.
I have intimacy directed the plays Men’s Business by Simon Stephens with Glassmask Theatre (“their awkward, unsensual sex scenes… occur so often that the production’s intimacy coordinator Marty Breen deserves to share directing credits.”, The Guardian) and in heat by Sadhbh Malin, Philomena Productions (“A scene depicting sexual aggression is well managed, composed and executed and it is a testament to the company”, The Reviews Hub), and am currently under a shadowing mentorship for large-scale TV and film productions.
My approach to IC’ing is practical, compassionate and highly skilled, having been on both sides of the camera, with a focus on efficiency, open communication and cross-departmental collaboration. I also deliver workshops in informed, creative consent with businesses and youth theatres.
